Ki energy is a finite, cosmic resource, harvested from the very essence of life. On the remote planet Shenzhou, a long, long time ago, Yi Fan was raised in a temple dedicated to protecting and controlling the balance of Ki energy. Their work and dedication was to ensure that Ki was never misused or depleted.

Yi Fan was the most devoted. He earned the rank of Keeper, a title reserved for elders who had achieved complete mastery of Ki, after only a century of training. For thousands of years, he was a guardian, the ultimate defense against those who would use Ki for war, power, or destruction.

But as time passed, many other civilizations discovered how to manipulate this cosmic resource. Some tapped it to heal or improve their quality of life, but others... too many others, constructed weapons that utilized raw Ki energy to wage war all over the universe. With more and more tapping into this limited force, Yi Fan could no longer operate from the temple. It was time to take action.

The Athelan Battlegrounds became a destination for the worst of the offenders. Warriors who would use massive amounts of Ki for the express purpose of destroying life. Yi Fan joined the battlegrounds willingly, ready to stop the offenders in their track, forever.
